MINISTRY IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF PONDICHERRY

Originating from Saint – Etienne parish in Sens (Yonne), he was born on 18 August 1806. He was ordained priest on May 24, 1829. He entered the M.E.P.  seminary on March 25, 1831 and he left for India on 4-7-1831. He was in pondy on 9-2-1832. Mgr. Hebert sent him to Bangalore 1833-1840.

He was with Bochaton in Mysore Mission, North East. Then he was with Aulagne, who encourages him (2/133, 134). Dupuis writes Catechism books (2.130), Pamphlets (2/133, 134). In 1839 he becomes very sick (2/133). Towards 1840, he was called to Pondicherry and appointed to organize the Printing press of the Mission called “Maatha Achagam”. One year he was at the seminary. Then he was replaced by Leroux.

Mission Press (II/137-138, 140). Translation of gospels 634, Mgr. Bonnand & Dupuis (II/147). He was a possible coadjutor 1839-1840. The best but scrupulosity (II/350) Note.

He was trusted by Mgr. Bonnand (2/433).

In 1843 he collaborated in the drafting of the program for the Synod of Pondicherry and in 1844 took part in the works of this meeting. In 1849 he assisted the second Synod of Pondicherry, as Synodal witness. (2/643, 648-684 II/18) note. Immaculate Heart of Mary (2/468, 3/541, 4/249, 256-267 2/485). Then he was confirmed as provicar by Mgr. Laouenan. Then he was superior at Pondy during the absence of the Bishop. (III/368). He was possible Bishop at Coimbatore after Bonnand (724-737 IV/19, 231-232), after Godelle (3/668) but he was scrupulous. From 1853 to 1859 he was in-charge of the Parish of Oulgaret (III/125), St. Vincent de Paul at Pondy 1852-(3/177), Confraternity of Our Lady (3/141), Bon Secours (3/187). Death of Bonnand (3/392, 400). He died on 4 June 1874 after long illness (4/420, 421). When the graveyard  of the mission was reshaped in 1990, his grave was dug and the few bones were carried to Pakkamudayampet and were placed in a new grave.
